With the proliferation of bandwidth-hungry applications,
existing residential networks are unable to keep up with the
ever-increasing end user demand for higher bandwidth. The
best alternative is to send that traffic over fiber, also
known as Fiber to the Premises (FTTP). Centillium’s
FTTP products are based on a type of optical technology called
Passive Optical Networks (PONs), specifically Ethernet PON
(EPON). EPON offers a highly efficient network architecture
that enables service providers to deliver a triple play of
voice, data and video services at incredibly high speeds—up
to 1 Gbps.
Because FTTP is a rapidly growing market in selected networks,
service providers are increasing their demand for semiconductor
integrated circuits. Centillium is leveraging its technology
and market leadership in broadband access to offer end-to-end PON ICs that enable cost effective, feature rich, and
high-performance PON systems at the physical layer and protocol
layer for both CO and CPE applications.
