Optical

With the proliferation of bandwidth-hungry applications, existing residential networks are unable to keep up with the ever-increasing end user demand for higher bandwidth. The best alternative is to send that traffic over fiber, also known as Fiber to the Premises (FTTP). Centillium’s FTTP products are based on a type of optical technology called Passive Optical Networks (PONs), specifically Ethernet PON (EPON). EPON offers a highly efficient network architecture that enables service providers to deliver a triple play of voice, data and video services at incredibly high speeds—up to 1 Gbps.

Because FTTP is a rapidly growing market in selected networks, service providers are increasing their demand for semiconductor integrated circuits. Centillium is leveraging its technology and market leadership in broadband access to offer end-to-end PON ICs that enable cost effective, feature rich, and high-performance PON systems at the physical layer and protocol layer for both CO and CPE applications.
