CENTILLIUM COMMUNICATIONS APPOINTS JOHN LUHTALA AS VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Former SCO Executive Brings 30 Years of Finance Experience with Fortune 500s and Startups


FREMONT, Calif., December 13, 1999 -
Centillium Communications, Inc. today announced the appointment of John W. Luhtala as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer effective December 8, 1999. Luhtala is responsible for the management of Centillium's finance department, treasury, investor relations, and corporate services, and reports directly to A. Travis White, President and CEO of Centillium.

Luhtala has over 30 years of experience in finance, legal, and accounting in domestic and international business environments with Fortune 500 companies and startup organizations. His extensive knowledge and expertise includes financial planning and control, negotiations of lines of credit and lease financing, management of accounting, budgeting, and treasury functions, and financial public relations.

Luhtala Brings Experience in Domestic and International Finance
Prior to joining Centillium, John Luhtala was Senior Vice President of Operations and CFO at Santa Cruz Operations (SCO), a $223-million supplier of UNIX operating systems. At SCO, Luhtala was responsible for the management of the finance, accounting, treasury, tax, facilities, manufacturing, and MIS departments. He initiated and led a restructuring effort to enhance financial performance.

Prior to SCO, Luhtala was CFO and Vice President of Mergers, Acquisitions, and Joint Ventures for SyQuest Technology, a $300-million manufacturer of removable cartridge disk drives. As part of a new turn-around management team, Luhtala dealt with the SEC, NASDAQ, and financial press. He was also involved in raising over $70 million in new equity.

Before Syquest, Luhtala spent nine years with Amdahl Corporation in various financial management positions, including International Treasury Manager, Director of Finance for Amdahl France, Assistant Controller, and Director of Finance for Compatible Systems. Prior to Amdahl, Luhtala held various international and domestic management positions with Sensormatic Electronics, US Leasing International, and Richardson-Vicks.
