Netgear Selects Centillium To Speed Next-Generation Consumer VOIP Platform To Market

Atlanta Family of Scalable SoC Solutions Allows Equipment Manufacturers to Minimize Development Time and Preserve Software Investment across Multiple Platforms

FREMONT, Calif., September 7, 2005Centillium Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: CTLM), a leading provider of broadband access solutions, today announced that NETGEAR has selected Centillium’s newest AtlantaÔ system-on-chip (SoC) solutions to optimize cost and speed production of its latest Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) platform for the consumer and small business markets. Centillium’s newly expanded Atlanta series – which includes four unique devices and easy-to-use, intuitive application software – is one of the most complete, turnkey SoC solutions that allows equipment manufacturers to significantly reduce development time and preserve software investments across multiple platforms.

“NETGEAR is committed to bringing our customers the most advanced solutions, and the software portability of Centillium’s Atlanta family ensures that we are making a secure investment in a technology that can be easily upgraded as customer requirements change,” stated Patrick Lo, chairman and CEO, NETGEAR. “Atlanta’s high-performance routing and throughput delivers superior voice quality, while its versatile, configurable software facilitates cost-efficient, quick time-to-market. With each Atlanta family member optimized to deliver a different level of capabilities, the built-in software portability provides significant benefits for our customers to upgrade their service offerings without having to retool software.”

Built on Centillium’s award-winning Voice Services Platform (VSP), the Atlanta family is designed from the ground-up to enable service providers to cost-effectively deploy a growing set of key consumer and small office/home office (SOHO) VoIP applications. These include entry-level products such as a two-channel VoIP media terminal adapter (MTA), a VoIP cordless phone, a two-line gateway and four-line SOHO router, and a high-end triple play set-top box – all with the same software platform.

The Atlanta family’s innovative application software is field-proven to meet the demanding characteristics of carrier-class networks, and has been designed to be interoperable with the most widely deployed soft switches and leading VoIP service provider networks. Most importantly, its unique set of software features offers turnkey functionality for “plug-and-play” installation and service activation, allowing equipment manufacturers to start providing complete VoIP product solutions within as little as three months.

“We are on the cusp of a VoIP explosion, and Centillium has designed the Atlanta product family as an extremely flexible platform to help equipment manufacturers like NETGEAR get solutions to market in record time with maximum return on investment,” said Centillium CEO Faraj Aalaei. “Our dedication to innovating multiple generations of industry-leading broadband SoCs bundled with interoperable software has enabled us to fine-tune a multi-tiered family of products that allow our customers to move from low-end to higher-end capabilities without the multitude of issues associated with changing software.”

All the devices in the Atlanta family are architected to allow easy integration with other software operating systems such as Linux and VXworks. Each Atlanta device features a complete software suite, including an application program interface (API), driver package and documentation for ramping production in record time.

The Atlanta A70 is the family’s entry-level SoC, providing the most economical way for service providers to offer VoIP services with crystal clear voice quality. The A80 adds in the capability to interface with any WiFi or high-speed adapter, while the A90 is optimized for the SOHO market with four voice channels and the highest-performing routing engine available at 100 Mbit/second. At the top of the Atlanta family, the A100 adds ironclad, enterprise-level security and encryption of all data and voice.
