Centillium Communications Announces New Voice Services Platform For Consumer And SOHO Applications | |
Locking Arms with AT&T Centillium develops
carrier-grade Voice-over-Internet Protocol platform FREMONT, Calif. (Sept. 22, 2004) – Building on the
company’s award-winning expertise in Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP),
Centillium Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTLM), a leading
provider of broadband access solutions, today announced the release of
its new Voice Services Platform (VSP) for consumer and small-office/home-office
(SOHO) applications. Centillium’s VSP is designed as
the consumer electronics industry’s first turnkey platform for the development
and deployment of carrier-grade VoIP products. Architected from its conception
to radically improve time-to-market and reduce the development costs associated
with VoIP products, Centillium’s VSP combines all of the silicon and software
building blocks needed to develop a VoIP phone system into a single platform.
Centillium’s VSP provides original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with the advanced calling features end users want, while
enabling network providers to develop and deploy new revenue generating
services to consumer and SOHO customers. As a charter member of AT&T VoIP
Innovations and Interoperability Program, Centillium has joined forces with AT&T to guide
the VSP through the certification process for use with the
carrier’s CallVantage service. “Already selected by Uniden
America as its VoIP platform of choice, our Voice Services Platform creates a
fundamental change in the way OEMs look to develop and deploy VoIP products,”
said Faraj Aalaei, co-founder and CEO, Centillium Communications. “As we partner with some of the world’s leading
consumer electronics companies and service providers, Centillium’s
next-generation voice technology will power a variety of VoIP-enabled products
including stand-alone terminal adapters, phones, home media gateways, routers,
set-top boxes and small to medium sized IP/PBX systems.” Kevin
Mitchell, Infonetics Research analyst and lead author of the firm’s recent
study on VoIP added, “Service providers are finally adopting the packet
communication paradigm. It’s no longer just specialists or VoIP pioneers, but
all types of carriers in all regions of the world that are adopting VoIP
technology to offer a new set of service offerings. Service providers invested
$1.2 billion in next generation voice equipment worldwide in 2003, and we
project that these investments will grow to $4.8 billion by 2007.” Centillium’s VSP – One Platform, Many VoIP Networks Developed
in partnership with AT&T to interoperate with industry leading
softswitches, Centillium’s Voice Services Platform enables telecom, cable and
wireless equipment companies to easily develop and deploy VoIP systems that
support any user environment with toll-quality voice, fax and
routing functionality. Possessing a high level of
network intelligence, Centillium’s VSP can operate over any broadband access
network (ADSL, cable, WiMAX, etc.) and has the ability to learn and adapt to
the VoIP network of any service provider. It is optimized to maintain broadband
network performance while delivering advanced calling features such as global
phone number portability, virtual phone numbers, conferencing, superior echo
cancellation and a host of other new features not available with traditional
phone service. Available now, Centillium’s VSP encapsulates the company’s powerful voice and
networking engines with a complete production-ready software package that
provides application stability. Centillium’s VSP includes support for several
real-time operating systems
(VxWorks, RTEMS and Linux), the latest Session
Initiation Protocol (SIP), Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) and H.323 protocols, a full range of CODEC support,
support for WiFi (802.11a/b/g), auto provisioning and management options and
easy-to-use Web-based configuration tools. In
addition, Centillium’s VSP offers a dynamic security framework that is designed to
provide consumers with IP phones and VoIP gateways that deliver a strong
defense against denial-of-service attacks while ensuring high Quality of Service
(QoS) levels for packet-based voice traffic. Incorporating nine levels of encryption security, Centillium’s VSP
uses a secure remote connection to authenticate, block, download and manage
each user session. Moreover, Centillium’s VSP enables VoIP service providers
and equipment companies to transparently upgrade security features, in
real-time, to meet ever changing threats and emerging market requirements. About Centillium Communications Centillium Communications, Inc. is a leading
